As many people have already noticed, hosted sites are currently down and will be until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience; we have no ETA for a fix at this time.
Update: for the people that think we're not saying anything because we like keeping you in the dark, this is obviously not true and I'd like to think that by now people know that if we're not saying stuff, its just because we have nothing to say. As yet we don't know exactly what the problem is - its just one of those stupid computer issues that even crops up on server hardware. We hope to have it resolved soon.
Update #2: The box has been restored thanks to aragawn's hard work and normal services should be back tomorrow.

Any news yet fellas?
It's been 5 days since the hosting went down.
I think the general feeling of the people in the forums are "ok fine, they are down. But dont keep us in the dark about it. Tell us whats going on, give us an ETA if you can".
Noone has been told yet what the problem was. I find myself checking every 30 mins (when im online) to see if they are up yet. And even then im not too sure if the HDD crashed and ive lost everything.
Please, a little communication goes a long way.
Cheers.

I don't like the way trog approaches things like this
"server down for no apparent reason"
Then after 30 bicthing comments he finally says that they really don't know what is wrong with the server/servers, now don't you think he could have said from the very start
"server is down, i'm sorry for inconveniances, we don't know what the problem is, cant give out an ETA at the moment, hopefully soon to be back up soon"
-that took me a good 1 and a half minutes to type, if you Ausgamers staff complain about users bitching at you, take the extra half a minute to pass the information you guys know to us and therefore we have no bitching comments to make.
And then even better, you could update us as to how things are going.
i know you are all too busy to spend that extra half a minute doing that for us, and maybe a toal of 10 minutes including updates, but i think its the price to pay for not keeping us to date. but really, please don't have a go at us for asking/bitching at you guys as to why the hosting isn't up. it's a free service: yes, but that doesn't give you the right to threaten/in some ways abuse users.
edit: i would be happy and accepted this whole downtime thing if trog had have said in the firstplace:
"server is down, i'm sorry for inconveniances, we don't know what the problem is, cant give out an ETA at the moment, hopefully soon to be back up soon"

Maybe if you were in their shoes for a day you would better understand. Quit bitching. Thank you.

I don't like the way trog approaches things like this Want your money back? Gimme a break, I don't have unlimited amounts of time to cater to every single person's personal desires.

from what ive seen you dont have time for any problems, maybe you should employ some people that do have time. that costs money (to pay people), that's what employment's about.
you going to pay them yourself, or shall they add large ad banners to your site, and large popups?

I don't think blaming anyone is going to help the servers come up sooner.
I think what Trog and other Ausgamers members are frustrated about is the very small minority of users don't bother asking nicely what the problem is but jump to conclusions and abusive/uncalled for language. This then sours the whole mood and puts the AG members off from doing anything let alone telling us whats going on.
In the future, if those people (the minority of immature kids) didnt use abuse in their initial posts they wouldnt be greeted with abuse back at them.
Owell. Live and learn I guess.
Aragawn, Trog and the others. Thankyou VERY much on behalf of all users for the effort you fellas have put in to this fine service you have for us. :)

service is back up! so, now that the service is back up, my compliments are that:
1) it works nice and fast
2) it's still free and almost ad-less
3) ... well that's it, but that's what's important about hosting, right?
thanks for fixing the problem, you guys!

trog: i want to hear you say you seriously don't have a good 5 minutes in your life to spend typing a short, descriptive message.
i know you guys work hard, not getting payed, for the benefit of users, but as i said, an extra minute or two would cancel out all of these bitchy comments.

Jeez some of you guys are complete f***heads!!
If I was Trog, I'd be removing any hosting rights any of you morons had and banning you from the service. This is free and run by volunteers. You don't like it, go to GeoCities or something because you're not welcome here.

I thought they meant five minutes to just address what was happening overall? Maybe I've confused myself but that's what I thought he was talking about.
Five mins to type out a msg and post up on site and then saves himself from all those annoying pplz >.<
Not saying that the way pplz go about asking about the problem is nice or anything...

that's good in theory darkangel... but in practice, all those people will just adjust what they say and barrage the admin (trog, in this case) anyway. :P

You can't apply because we're not currently taking applications - this thread is not about applying though, it's about the actual hosting service, and how it was down, and has now been back up for some time.
